CovationBio Showcases Xatryx® bioPTMEG and Sorona® elasterell-p Fiber at Functional Fabric Fair New York 2026

Company highlights two bio-based material innovations for performance apparel and hosts technical presentation on sustainable textile solutions

Covation Biomaterials LLC (CovationBio®) is exhibiting two newly introduced bio-based materials, Xatryx® bioPTMEG and Sorona® elasterell-p fiber, during the Functional Fabric Fair New York 2026, being held from July 7–9 in New York City.

At Booth #404, the company is presenting both innovations to attendees from the performance apparel and textile sectors. The exhibition also includes a Main Stage presentation by Mosha Zhao, Global Marketing Director for C4 Platform at CovationBio, scheduled for Wednesday, July 8 at 3:35 p.m.

The presentation will examine how Xatryx®, a second-generation bio-based raw material, supports functional textile performance while contributing to the defossilization of the materials supply chain. The session will also highlight the company's partnership with Huafon on bio-elastane innovation.

Xatryx® bioPTMEG

Xatryx® bioPTMEG is a second-generation bio-based polyether glycol produced from corncobs, a renewable non-food agricultural by-product. According to the company, the material serves as a drop-in replacement for conventional petroleum-based polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG).

The product is designed for applications that traditionally use spandex, polyurethanes and thermoplastic elastomers. CovationBio stated that downstream manufacturers can adopt Xatryx® without making changes to existing production processes. Commercial production is expected to begin during the second half of 2026.

Sorona® elasterell-p Fiber

CovationBio is also featuring Sorona® elasterell-p fiber, described as the first U.S.-produced bicomponent stretch fiber made with 37 percent plant-based Sorona® polymer.

The fiber provides durable stretch and shape retention without elastane and is commercially available across the United States and Latin America through regional distribution partner Mercados Internacionales (MI).

According to the company, Sorona® elasterell-p fiber is intended for applications including activewear, athleisure, workwear, uniforms and other apparel requiring long-lasting stretch performance and comfort.

Commenting on the exhibition, Steven Ackerman, CEO of CovationBio, said:

“Functional Fabric Fair brings together the designers and developers shaping the future of performance apparel and that’s exactly who we built these innovations for. Together, Xatryx® and Sorona® elasterell-p fiber show how we’re reducing friction and increasing performance for our value chain partners while helping them decrease their environmental impact.”

CovationBio stated that additional information on its latest innovations is available through its website and official social media channels.
