Cotton Sector Reforms Highlighted at Cotton Utsav 2026

Stakeholders discuss farmer welfare, productivity, transparency and High Density Planting System in Telangana’s cotton sector.

Reforms Focus on Cotton Value Chain and Farmer Outcomes

Reforms aimed at empowering cotton farmers and improving efficiency and transparency across the cotton value chain were showcased at ‘Reforms in Cotton – Utsav 2026’, organised by the Ministry of Textiles in association with the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

The programme brought attention to reforms in cotton cultivation and the need for coordinated efforts involving government agencies, agricultural institutions, industry and farmers.

Need for Coordinated Efforts

K. Surendra Mohan, Agricultural Production Commissioner and Secretary, Agriculture and Cooperation Department, stressed the need for coordinated efforts among government agencies, agricultural institutions, industry and farmers to strengthen the cotton and textile sectors.

He highlighted benefits of the High Density Planting System over conventional cultivation and called for appropriate policy measures to promote its adoption across Telangana.

Focus on Cotton Cultivation and Productivity

The discussions at the event covered experiences related to cotton cultivation and productivity. Farmers shared their experiences and highlighted issues encountered during cultivation.

Participants also stressed the importance of quality, consistency and value addition to improve the competitiveness of Indian cotton in the global textile value chain.

The event brought together stakeholders connected with cotton production and the wider textile sector, with discussions focusing on measures that could strengthen the cotton value chain and improve outcomes for cotton farmers.
