Cotton Trade Body Trims Crop Size To The Lowest Since 2008-09

Published: May 18, 2023

Our Office The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has reduced its estimate for the crop of fibre by another 7 lakh bales, bringing it down to 321 lakh bales (170 kg apiece). According to forecasts from the Cotton Advisory Board, the crop would likely be the lowest since 305 lakh bales were recorded in 2009–2010.

The crop estimate is down by roughly 12% from the previous year, which is attributable to a dramatic fall in crop size in Telangana and Karnataka, two of the important growing States, as well as Gujarat (down by 20%) and Maharashtra (down by 8%).
