According to the Cotton Association of India, a group of traders, India’s cotton harvest is predicted to be at its lowest levels since 2009–2010, primarily due to the influence of the country’s changing environment on the fibre crop, which is farmed in nearly a dozen States.

The organisation reported on Wednesday that it had reduced the quantity of the cotton harvest for the year 2022–2023 to 303 lakh bales (each weighing 170 kg), the smallest amount since 2009–2010. From the anticipated harvest, it is estimated that 190.63 lakh bales have already reached the markets between October 2022 and March 2023.
