Chemco Group Sets Up Food-Grade rPET Recycling Plant in Gujarat

Chemco Group has commissioned a new bottle-to-bottle rPET recycling facility in Sanand, Gujarat, with an investment of Rs.125 crore, strengthening India’s food-grade recycled plastics capacity.
Chemco Group, an Indian plastic packaging manufacturer, has commissioned a food-grade recycled PET (rPET) recycling facility in Sanand, Gujarat, with a capital investment of approximately Rs.125 crore. The development expands the company’s manufacturing footprint and supports India’s shift toward circular plastic packaging systems.
The plant is designed to process more than 1 billion post-consumer PET bottles every year, converting them into food-grade rPET suitable for direct use in food and beverage packaging. With this addition, Chemco joins a limited group of domestic producers capable of offering bottle-to-bottle recycling at industrial scale.
Situated in Sanand’s industrial corridor, the facility has been developed in line with international regulatory benchmarks. Output from the plant is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and complies with India’s FSSAI norms for food-contact materials. Operations also conform to relevant Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) requirements governing recycled plastics.
“This facility represents a strategic shift in how Chemco approaches sustainability,” said Mr. Vaibhav Saraogi, Managing Director, Chemco Group. “Rather than treating recycling as an external dependency, we have built a fully integrated bottle-to-bottle ecosystem that gives our customers confidence in supply security, traceability, and compliance. This is not just an investment in infrastructure; it is an investment in the future of responsible packaging.”
The commissioning aligns with increasing regulatory and brand-led emphasis on recycled content, emissions reduction, and circularity. By integrating recycling within its operations, Chemco aims to help brand owners meet recycled-content targets, extended producer responsibility (EPR) requirements, and sustainability goals while maintaining product performance and food safety standards.
The Sanand unit operates as a closed-loop system, enabling end-to-end oversight across the recycling chain. This structure improves traceability, reduces dependence on third-party suppliers, and limits emissions associated with long-distance material transport. The scale of the facility also supports consistent output for beverage, FMCG, and food-sector customers.
In addition to environmental outcomes, the project contributes to regional industrial development through job creation and infrastructure expansion. It also strengthens Gujarat’s position as a centre for manufacturing and sustainability-focused investment, supporting national objectives related to waste reduction and resource efficiency.
Chemco Group has over three decades of experience in PET packaging, supplying rigid and flexible formats to domestic and international brands. The introduction of large-scale rPET recycling adds to its existing portfolio and expands its role in sustainable packaging supply chains.
Looking ahead, the company plans to use this platform to support higher recycled-content applications and explore future capacity enhancements as demand for certified food-grade recycled materials grows.
With the commissioning of the Sanand facility, Chemco advances its efforts to close the PET loop by converting post-consumer waste into a usable industrial resource within India’s packaging ecosystem.
