Cedro Têxtil Cuts Natural Gas Consumption by Over 20% with Brückner Stenter Technology

The Brazilian workwear fabric manufacturer has improved production speeds, reduced operating costs and strengthened its sustainability efforts through a production line upgrade.

Brazilian textile manufacturer Cedro Têxtil has reported a reduction of more than 20% in natural gas consumption following the installation of a Brückner stenter frame. The investment forms part of the company’s ongoing production modernisation programme, which focuses on improving energy efficiency, product quality and manufacturing performance. The upgrade has also enabled Cedro Têxtil to decommission three older stenter frames.

Equipment Selection Followed Extensive Evaluation

With more than 150 years of company history, Cedro Têxtil continues to modernise its manufacturing facilities. Recognised as the largest manufacturer of workwear fabrics in Latin America, the Brazilian company selected Brückner Textile Technologies for a new stenter frame installed just over a year ago.

The decision followed several years of evaluating machinery manufacturers from Europe and Asia. Cedro Têxtil visited production facilities and reference customers worldwide and compared different technologies before selecting the equipment.

According to the company, the evaluation considered productivity, maintenance costs, technical support, energy efficiency, spare parts availability and local service support in Brazil. Brückner’s technology, process reliability and energy efficiency were among the factors behind the decision.

Lower Energy Consumption and Improved Production Performance

Following commissioning, the new Brückner production line delivered a reduction of more than 20% in natural gas consumption while enabling higher production speeds.

The equipment has also supported the manufacture of super-stretch fabrics, where consistent processing conditions are important. Uniform temperature distribution throughout the dryer helps maintain dimensional stability and product quality.

The productivity gains enabled Cedro Têxtil to take three older stenter frames out of operation after commissioning the new line. According to the company, this has reduced operating costs and helped optimise production processes.

Sustainability Remains a Strategic Priority

Sustainability has been part of Cedro Têxtil’s corporate strategy for several years. The company participates in Brazil’s GHG Protocol Program and reports that it has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 85% over recent years.

The investment in energy-efficient machinery supports these efforts while addressing manufacturing performance. It also comes amid growing customer interest in sustainable production methods and responsible supply chains.

Workwear Fabrics Account for 65% of Production

Approximately 65% of Cedro Têxtil’s production comprises workwear fabrics. These materials are used in manufacturing, healthcare, military applications and personal protective equipment (PPE).

The company has an annual production capacity of more than 60 million linear metres of fabric, annual revenue of approximately BRL 1.2 billion and a workforce of more than 2,600 employees. It is among the major textile manufacturers in Latin America.

Further Modernisation Planned

Cedro Têxtil is considering additional upgrades as part of its continuing manufacturing modernisation programme. The company plans to replace more existing production lines with Brückner technology in the future.

Patrick Melo Pinheiro, Industrial Director of Cedro Têxtil, said:

“We are a company that continuously reinvents itself and has overcome countless challenges throughout its history. Whether currency fluctuations, world wars, or the recent pandemic, we have always viewed every challenge as an opportunity to become stronger. By investing in a Brückner production line, we have taken an important step towards a more sustainable future and significantly reduced our carbon footprint. With Brückner as our partner, we can further strengthen the highest quality standards in our market and expand our leading position in a highly competitive environment.”

The installation marks a step in Cedro Têxtil’s efforts to combine production modernisation with lower energy consumption and consistent fabric quality.
