CareEdge Debt Quality Index Holds Steady at 97.27 in June 2026

Stable investment-grade debt ratings keep CareEdge Debt Quality Index unchanged from May 2026

The CareEdge Debt Quality Index (CDQI) remained unchanged at 97.27 in June 2026, maintaining the same level recorded in May 2026. According to CareEdge Ratings, the stability reflects relatively steady rated debt across different investment-grade rating categories.

The CareEdge Debt Quality Index (CDQI) remained stable at 97.27 in June 2026, unchanged from May 2026. CareEdge Ratings attributed the flat movement to relatively steady rated debt across various investment-grade rating categories.

The CDQI has recorded an upward trend since November 2021. The index is benchmarked against the base year FY12, where a value of 100 represents the reference point. According to CareEdge, an increase in the index indicates an improvement in debt quality compared with the base year, while the index also serves as a near-real-time indicator of developments in the debt and credit markets due to minimal reporting lag.

The index is based on a dataset comprising 1,683 companies selected from CareEdge’s portfolio of 2,980 companies as of March 2012. The sample is reviewed periodically and updated by replacing companies that no longer have rating coverage with entities of similar ratings and comparable outstanding debt volumes.

As of June 2026, the total outstanding debt covered by the sample companies stood at Rs 61.16 lakh crore. CareEdge stated that the methodology is designed to provide a consistent measure of debt quality over time while allowing comparisons with broader developments in the financial sector.

The monthly movement table shows that the index rose from 94.90 in July 2024 to 97.27 in May 2026, before remaining unchanged in June 2026, reflecting continued stability in debt quality during the latest reporting period.
