Stakeholders Discuss IFRS Reporting, Sustainable Finance and Carbon Markets
CareEdge Advisory, in partnership with The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and DevPro, convened a high-level roundtable on “Advancing Sustainability Readiness: IFRS Reporting, Sustainable Finance & Carbon Markets” on August 05, 2026. The discussion brought together representatives from government, regulators, financial institutions, listed companies, development organisations and industry to examine Sri Lanka’s evolving sustainability landscape.
The event opened with welcome remarks from Mr. Shiran Fernando, CEO of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, followed by opening remarks from Ms. Chamindry Saparamadu, Executive Director of DevPro.
Swati Agrawal, CEO of CareEdge Advisory, set the context for the discussion by highlighting the increasing importance of sustainability as a strategic business imperative affecting business resilience, competitiveness, access to capital and long-term value creation.
The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Punyamali Saparamadu, Senior Vice President, Colombo Stock Exchange. She highlighted Sri Lanka’s progress in developing its sustainable finance ecosystem through initiatives including the Sustainable Finance Roadmap, Green Finance Taxonomy, sustainability reporting, and Green, Social, Sustainability and Sustainability-Linked (GSS+) Bonds.
The technical session was led by Kedar Deshpande, ESG Director, CareEdge Advisory, and focused on three areas: IFRS S1 & S2 Readiness, Sustainable Finance Opportunities, and Carbon Credit Opportunities in Sri Lanka. The session examined evolving global sustainability requirements, their implications for Sri Lankan businesses, and approaches to strengthening sustainability readiness.
Participants also took part in an interactive discussion covering implementation challenges, climate finance, carbon market opportunities, policy readiness and collaboration across the sustainability ecosystem.
The discussions highlighted the growing role of sustainability in governance, risk management, access to finance, investor confidence and long-term business value. Participants also discussed the need to strengthen institutional capacity, improve sustainability disclosures, mobilize sustainable finance and accelerate policies supporting Sri Lanka’s transition towards a resilient and low-carbon economy.
