bluesign Highlights Worker Health in Textile Manufacturing Through Responsible Chemical Management

New briefing outlines chemical safety practices, factory assessments, and upcoming bluepass launch as regulatory requirements evolve.

bluesign has released a new briefing highlighting worker health in textile manufacturing, focusing on chemical exposure and responsible chemical management across the supply chain. The publication outlines the company's assessment approach, current regulatory developments, and upcoming initiatives, including the launch of the consumer-facing bluepass mark.

bluesign has published a new briefing focused on worker health in textile manufacturing, drawing attention to chemical exposure during textile production and the measures used to manage related health and safety risks across the industry.

For more than 25 years, bluesign has worked with brands, manufacturers, textile mills, and chemical suppliers to promote responsible chemical management throughout the textile supply chain. The company's network currently includes more than 900 partners globally.

The bluesign System follows a preventive approach to chemical management by assessing chemical formulations, manufacturing processes, and facility operations before chemicals enter production. Instead of identifying issues after production, the system supports the selection of safer chemical inputs and continuous improvements in factory operations.

The newly released briefing explains how this approach is implemented in practice. It outlines the key risk areas evaluated during on-site assessments and describes the hierarchy of controls, referred to as the "S.T.O.P." principle, which is used to distinguish facilities with established worker health and safety practices.

The publication comes as bluesign enters a new phase under the leadership of Hanane Taidi, who recently joined the organization as Chief Executive Officer. According to the company, the new leadership will guide the next stage of bluesign's global activities.

The briefing also precedes the launch of bluepass, bluesign's first consumer-facing mark, which is scheduled to begin appearing on garments in the coming weeks. The initiative extends transparency from brands and manufacturers to consumers purchasing textile products.

The release also notes that regulatory developments, including PFAS restrictions, the EU's Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and expanding due diligence legislation, are increasing the demand for verified primary data on supply chain operations. According to bluesign, its system and the associated digital product passport infrastructure are designed to support these emerging requirements.

The company has also identified several subject matter experts available for industry discussions. These include Hanane Taidi, Chief Executive Officer, who can discuss bluesign's future direction and worker health initiatives; Barbara Oswald, Chief Commercial Officer, who oversees relationships with system partners and chemical management implementation; and Dr. Daniel Waterkamp, Head of bluesign Academy, who focuses on technical and regulatory aspects of chemical exposure, on-site assessments, and improvement programs.
