Quick commerce platform reports higher sales of flags, wearables, kites, decorations, snacks and beverages during Independence Day celebrations

bigbasket, a TATA Enterprise and India’s trusted quick commerce platform, recorded notable demand across patriotic merchandise and celebration essentials during Independence Day 2026, highlighting changing consumer purchasing patterns around festive occasions.

During the build-up week leading to Independence Day, patriotic merchandise registered significant growth, with units increasing by around 2.6X compared with the same period in 2025. Among these products, wearables such as stoles, badges and caps represented the largest share of the category.

Demand also expanded into related celebration products. Kites recorded nearly 25X growth in volumes compared to last year, while kite accessories grew close to 7X. Decorations registered a 44% increase in value. Wearables, including stoles, badges and caps, continued to contribute close to two-thirds of patriotic merchandise sold, with volumes rising 2.4X.

Alongside patriotic products, bigbasket also experienced higher demand for celebration essentials, including snacks, beverages, sweets and other gathering-related products, as customers prepared for housing society events, school functions, office celebrations and family get-togethers.

The company noted that the increase in demand reflects the growing role of quick commerce in helping consumers fulfil both advance purchases and immediate festive requirements. Customers were able to order products ranging from flags and accessories to refreshments and snacks, including deliveries made close to the start of celebrations.

Commenting on the trend, Vishal Das, Chief Buying & Merchandising Officer, bigbasket, said, “What stood out this Independence Day was not just the growth in patriotic merchandise, but the way customers shopped for the occasion. We saw strong demand for flags, stoles, badges and celebration essentials, with many orders coming close to the start of community events, school functions and family gatherings. This reflects a broader shift in consumer behaviour, where quick commerce is increasingly becoming a preferred channel for both planned festive purchases and last-minute requirements. For us, the opportunity is not only to deliver products quickly, but to ensure customers can find everything they need for moments that matter, in one place and with complete convenience.”

The company stated that Independence Day 2026 demonstrated how quick commerce is becoming part of the way consumers prepare for celebrations. Customers used the platform to purchase products such as flags, snacks and refreshments for community events, family gatherings and other occasions through a single platform.
