India’s textile industry is standing at a decisive business moment.

The sector already contributes nearly 2% to India’s GDP, employs more than 45 million people, and produces around 22 billion garments annually. India’s textile and apparel market is projected to reach US$350 billion by 2030, with an export ambition of US$100 billion.

These numbers show the scale of opportunity. But they also show the scale of responsibility.

The next phase of textile growth will not be won only by capacity, cost, and speed. It will be won by countries and companies that can combine scale with sustainability, circularity, traceability, technology, and competitiveness.

That is why Bharat Tex 2026 is important. It is not just an exhibition. It is a platform to show the world that India is ready to build the next textile economy — one that is sustainable, circular, and competitive.

In FY 2025–26, India’s textile exports, including handicrafts, stood at around ₹3.16 lakh crore, showing resilience despite global uncertainty. Ready-made garments remained the largest export contributor, while man-made textiles and value-added segments continued to grow. This proves that India has the base. Now the challenge is to move from volume-driven growth to value-driven leadership.

Globally, the pressure is clear. Around 92 million tonnes of textile waste is generated every year, while only a small percentage of textile fibres come from recycled sources. Buyers, brands, regulators, and consumers are asking sharper questions on waste, emissions, chemicals, water, labour, and traceability.

For India, this is not a threat. It is a business opportunity.

India already has deep manufacturing clusters, skilled MSMEs, strong recycling traditions, entrepreneurial energy, and a culture of reuse and resource efficiency. What we need now is to upgrade this strength with technology, standards, finance, traceability, and global partnerships.

This is the purpose behind the Sustainability & Circularity Pavilion being built at Bharat Tex by GATS & CMAI.

The pavilion is not being created as a symbolic green space. It is being built as a practical business platform where manufacturers, recyclers, brands, chemical companies, technology providers, innovators, policymakers, institutions, and global partners can come together to see the future of textiles in action.

The focus is clear: working solutions.

Recycled fibres

Circular denim

Textile waste recovery

Low-impact processing

Cleaner chemistry

Water and energy efficiency

LCA and impact measurement

Digital product passports

Traceability systems

Cluster-level sustainability models

Responsible manufacturing partnerships

The industry does not need more theory. It needs scalable answers:

How can textile waste become a reliable raw material stream?

How can recycled content be increased without compromising quality?

How can factories reduce water, chemical, and energy costs?

How can MSMEs meet global sustainability expectations without losing competitiveness?

How can Indian manufacturers use circularity to win better buyers, better margins, and better market access?

These are now business questions.

Sustainability must no longer be treated only as CSR or compliance. Done properly, it reduces risk, improves efficiency, builds buyer trust, opens export opportunities, and creates new revenue streams. Circularity is not only about waste reduction. It is about value creation.

Bharat Tex 2026 is expected to bring together thousands of buyers, exhibitors, trade visitors, policymakers, global experts, and industry leaders. This makes it the right platform to position India not only as a manufacturing hub, but as a responsible sourcing and circular innovation hub.

For Indian textiles, the opportunity is clear.

We must move from a low-cost supplier to a trusted value-chain partner.

From fragmented sustainability efforts to measurable impact.

From waste management to circular raw material systems.

From compliance pressure to competitive advantage.

From isolated pilots to industry-wide collaboration.

A Sustainable, Circular, and Competitive Bharat is not a slogan. It is the next business strategy for Indian textiles.

The world is looking for reliable, transparent, and responsible sourcing partners. India has the manufacturing depth, recycling capability, MSME strength, and market ambition to answer that demand.

Bharat Tex gives us the stage.

The Sustainability & Circularity Pavilion gives us the direction.

Now, the industry must convert this moment into measurable business action.

The next textile revolution will be circular, traceable, responsible, and commercially competitive.

India can lead it.
