BB Engineering Showcased ValuePack Two-Step Filtration Spinning Package at ITM Istanbul

BB Engineering presented its new patented ValuePack spinning package for the first time at ITM in Istanbul. The system incorporates a two-step filtration process that is designed to support recycling applications while also offering benefits for other quality-critical textile production processes.
Conventional spinning packages generally use either metal powder ("sand") or filter candles as filtration media. Both systems are suited to different applications and have distinct operating characteristics.
Sand packs are primarily used with virgin material due to their ability to provide high melt homogeneity. Filter candle packages, developed specifically for recycling applications, offer a larger filtration area that improves filtration performance and extends service life. However, the increased filter area is associated with lower flux rate and shear, which can reduce melt homogeneity.
The ValuePack combines both filtration methods within a single spinning package. During operation, the polymer melt first passes through a filter cartridge, where it is filtered down to 15 µm across a large filtration surface. The melt then flows through the sand chamber, where homogenization and shearing take place.
According to BB Engineering, this two-stage process delivers improved temperature and viscosity homogeneity, enhanced spinning performance and higher yarn quality. These benefits are particularly relevant for recycling processes, where the system is intended to support the production of higher-quality recycled yarns. The company also states that the two-stage filtration concept can provide advantages in other demanding or quality-sensitive applications.
The ValuePack also incorporates a pressure-independent seal designed to reduce the risk of leaks that may occur with self-sealing packages. The sealing concept also enables a wider process window.
Existing spinning systems can be retrofitted to accommodate the ValuePack, which is slightly longer than conventional packages due to its design.
During ITM in Istanbul, visitors were able to view the operating principle of the ValuePack through a virtual reality (VR) animation presented at the BB Engineering stand.
