Bangladesh's major RMG export items
A few days ago, I shared with you the export performance of top 10 RMG products for the past 3 years. In continuation of my previous email, today I am writing to share with you the export performance of the next top 20 products in 6 digit HS-code level with a few comparative analyses. Among these 20 products, the major items were cotton knitted babies' garments, women or girls cotton knitted briefs & panties, non-cotton woven brassires, men or boys cotton knitted underpants, non-cotton knitted t-shirts, women or girls synthetic woven trousers, cotton knitted dresses, men or boys MMF woven anoraks, non-cotton knitted Jerseys & pullovers, men or boys MMF woven shirts, women or girls cotton knitted nighties, women or girls cotton woven blouses etc. I am sending you the detail data-sheet in the attachment where you can find the 20 items with their export value and growth. As per the analysis of BGMEA, our export earnings from these 20 items was US$ 5.12 billion in 2020 which rose to US$ 6.69 billion in 2021. In 2022.the export earnings from these 20 items was further increased by 17.61% and reached US$ 7.87 billion. These 20 products hold 17.20% share of the total apparel export earnings of Bangladesh. If we consider the individual product-wise export among these 20 products, the highest exportable apparel item of Bangladesh was cotton knitted babies' garments. In 2022, Bangladesh exported US$ 725.68 million worth cotton knitted babies' garments to the world which was US$ 565.45 million in 2021 and US$ 406.78 million in 2020. Also in 2021, the global import of cotton knitted babies' garments was US$ 7.04 billion while the share of Bangladesh was 8.03%. The 2nd top item was women or girls cotton knitted briefs & panties. In 2022 the export of this item grew by 10.88% to US$ 668.46 million from US$ 602.88 million in 2021. In this item, the share of Bangladesh in global imports was 19.26% in 2021. At the same time, the earnings from non-cotton woven brassires increased by 14.74% in 2022 compared to 2021. We exported US$ 642.17 million worth non cotton woven brassires to the world in 2022. In 2022, the export earnings from other major items such men or boys cotton knitted underpants, non-cotton knitted t-shirts, women or girls synthetic woven trousers, cotton knitted dresses, men or boys MMF woven anoraks, non-cotton knitted Jerseys & pullovers, men or boys MMF woven shirts, and women or girls cotton knitted nighties were US$ 601.74 Mn, US$ 521.14 Mn, US$ 501.32Mn, US$ 440.59Mn, US$ 376.56Mn, US$ 361.55Mn, US$ 330.84Mn, and US$ 314.49Mn respectively.
