Avon Protection has introduced the EXOSKIN-S2 high-performance CBRN protective suit. The launch extends the EXOSKIN ensemble portfolio to address higher-level CBRN threat environments. The suit is intended for military personnel, first responders and special forces operators.

The commercial availability of the EXOSKIN-S2 adds to the existing EXOSKIN product line, offering solutions for different operational risk levels. The EXOSKIN-S1 remains a low-weight (4.4lbs), low-burden option suited for lower-risk missions, while the EXOSKIN-S2 is configured for environments with elevated CBRN threats.

The EXOSKIN-S2 features an activated carbon fabric (ACF) inner layer designed to enhance protection against aerosol threats, vapor, liquid and particulate chemical warfare agents (CWAs). It is combined with a low-noise outer layer and is intended to support missions in CBRN environments for up to 24 hours.

Maintaining the ‘suit as a system’ design concept introduced with the EXOSKIN-S1, the EXOSKIN-S2 is engineered for compatibility with Avon Protection respirators, EXOSKIN-B1 boots and EXOSKIN-G1 gloves. The suit includes an integrated hood with a double elasticated aperture to provide a protective seal around the respirator without limiting movement. Additional design features include hook and loop adjustable tabs on the lower legs, a thumb loop, and an inner leg gaiter with stirrup to help prevent ingress during operations.

Standard elements across the EXOSKIN range include quarter zip and full zip configurations with hook and loop fastening to facilitate integration with body armor. The suits are available in various outer fabric patterns and color formulations intended to minimize detection in hostile operational settings.

“Our EXOSKIN range has been designed to protect operators from CBRN threats while reducing the physiological burden, so they stay more comfortable for longer,” Steve Elwell, President, Avon Protection, said. “With EXOSKIN-S2, we are giving users a greater choice of protection levels and continuing to deliver the Avon Protection quality assurance they know and trust to keep their operators safe in demanding environments.”
