ASPA Urges Authentication and Traceability Measures to Strengthen Pharmaceutical Packaging Security

Association supports government’s packaging supplier registration initiative and recommends Authentication and Traceability Solutions to improve supply chain security.

The Authentication Solution Providers' Association (ASPA) has expressed support for the Government of India's initiative aimed at improving oversight and traceability across the pharmaceutical packaging ecosystem.

According to ASPA, strengthening accountability and transparency in pharmaceutical packaging is an important measure for enhancing patient safety and addressing the issue of counterfeit medicines.

The association noted that the proposed registration framework for packaging suppliers is a positive development. However, it stated that registration alone may not be sufficient to mitigate counterfeiting risks throughout the supply chain.

ASPA has recommended the adoption of Authentication and Traceability Solutions (ATS) alongside the proposed registration framework to establish a more secure and reliable pharmaceutical supply chain.

The association further stated that any regulatory framework should maintain a balance between stronger oversight and ease of compliance, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises. It also emphasized the need to encourage standardized security practices across the pharmaceutical packaging ecosystem.
