ASICS SportStyle and atmos have introduced a special makeup sneaker, GEL-KAYANO™ 12.1. The model draws design inspiration from the traditional Japanese decorative technique known as Raden, which is recognised as a Japanese National Treasure.

ASICS SportStyle and atmos have released the GEL-KAYANO™ 12.1 sneaker as part of a special collaboration. The design references Raden, a traditional decorative craft that uses shells and lacquer.

Raden is a technique believed to have been introduced to Japan through the Silk Road around the 8th century. The process involves embedding shell materials into lacquer to create reflective patterns and colours. The new sneaker design incorporates visual elements inspired by this craft.

The upper of the sneaker changes appearance depending on lighting and viewing angle, reflecting the visual characteristics associated with Raden. The insole is designed with multicolour elements intended to represent the craft’s distinctive brightness.

The GEL-KAYANO 12.1™ sneaker serves as the base model for this edition. It retains design elements from the original GEL-KAYANO model while incorporating a modern sole structure. The upper design references European Gothic armor, incorporating structural and metallic design features.

The midsole uses the same touring system as the GEL‑NIMBUS™ 17 sneaker, including dual GEL™ technology inserts and FLUIDRIDE™ cushioning.

The ATMOS X GEL-KAYANO™ 12.1 is released in the Black/Black colour variant. The sneaker is available through ASICS SportStyle online and at the DLF Mall of India store in Noida for INR 16,999.
