New fashion collaboration highlights the creative versatility of cellulose fibres through a mythology-inspired contemporary collection.
Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) has collaborated with Indonesian fashion label TOTON to launch TOTON 2027: KALA, showcasing the design possibilities of viscose- and lyocell-based fabrics in premium contemporary fashion.
Inspired by Javanese and Balinese mythology, the collection comprises 10 curated looks that explore the relationship between material properties, silhouette, movement and garment structure. The designs demonstrate how cellulose fibres can be adapted into modern fashion while offering comfort, versatility and refined aesthetics.
Cellulose Fibres in Premium Fashion
The collection reflects the increasing use of nature-based cellulose fibres in premium apparel, illustrating how these materials can support both creative design and functional performance.
Toton Januar, Co-Founder and Designer of TOTON, said:
“I have always enjoyed exploring new materials for every collection, and working with viscose- and lyocell-based fabrics has been an exciting experience. These materials bring a fresh perspective to the design process, offering versatility that adapts beautifully to different silhouettes and creative approaches.”
He added:
“With this new collection, I want to show that functional and comfortable materials can also become powerful expressions of artistry and transformation in fashion. Working with APR has given us greater opportunities to push material innovation while creating collections that are increasingly relevant to the future of Indonesia's fashion industry.”
Supporting Indonesia's Textile and Fashion Industry
According to APR, the collaboration aligns with its efforts to strengthen Indonesia's downstream textile and fashion ecosystem by demonstrating the capabilities of cellulose-based fibres across contemporary and premium fashion applications.
Sachin Malik, Business Head of Asia Pacific Rayon, said:
“Through this collaboration with Toton, we are demonstrating how viscose and lyocell fibres can support creative expression while meeting the performance and sustainability expectations of modern fashion. Working with designers such as Toton helps expand the possibilities of cellulose fibres into new and premium fashion segments.”
Material Innovation and Fashion Design
The collaboration highlights the growing importance of fibre selection in fashion development. By combining cellulose-based materials with contemporary design, APR and TOTON demonstrate how material choices can influence silhouette, movement, texture and overall garment performance.
APR, a member of the RGE group of companies founded by Sukanto Tanoto, said the partnership illustrates the role of cellulose fibres in supporting innovation while enabling designers to develop collections that combine creativity, functionality and material performance.
