Archroma Introduces SILIGEN® D2W LIQ C – The First Durable Silicone Softener for Cotton

Archroma, a global leader in specialty chemicals committed to sustainable textile innovations, has launched SILIGEN® D2W LIQ C, the first-ever silicone softener designed to remain effective after multiple washes. This breakthrough technology offers extended softness and elasticity for cellulosic fabrics and cotton-lycra blends, making it ideal for undergarments, activewear, sleepwear, babywear, T-shirts, trousers, dresses, and towels.

Traditionally, manufacturers have faced a compromise between using a durable softener that reduces cotton’s natural absorbency or a softener that retains absorbency but loses its softness after repeated laundering. SILIGEN® D2W LIQ C overcomes this challenge, allowing fabrics to stay silky soft while maintaining absorbency, thus extending the lifespan of garments.

The innovation features Archroma’s patent-pending micro-x technology, a cross-linkable microemulsion forming a stable silicone network inside fibers. This ensures a uniform and durable distribution of the softener, maintaining softness over multiple washes with no yellowing effects. It is also compatible with anionic components and easy-care resins, expanding possibilities for functional textile finishes such as crease resistance.

Dhirendra Gautam, VP Global Marketing and Strategy at Archroma, stated,

“Archroma is committed to innovation that furthers our planet-conscious vision for the future of the apparel and textile industry. As our brand partners increasingly design for longevity, they want to offer garments that remain luxurious and comfortable to wear over a longer life. SILIGEN® D2W LIQ C is a breakthrough innovation that enables a new approach to softening. By enhancing both durability and cotton hand feel, it reduces the need for frequent replacement of garments to conserve resources, minimize waste, and lessen the environmental impact of the industry.”

Archroma has also developed a new objective way to measure handfeel durability by tracking elastic recovery of treated fabric across multiple wash cycles, allowing mills and brands to quantify softness retention scientifically for the first time.
