AI in Textile Industry to Take Centre Stage at ITAMMA-SITRA International Conference in Coimbatore on September 25, 2026

International conference to examine AI adoption, industry applications, global trends and implementation strategies across India's textile sector
Artificial intelligence is increasingly being adopted across India's ₹12 lakh crore textile industry, improving operational efficiency and reducing waste by up to 30%, while AI adoption is growing at 40% annually. Current applications include AI-powered fabric inspection, automated design, predictive maintenance, fabric visualization, automated product catalog creation, quality control and supply chain optimisation.
AI tools also enable fabric sellers, designers and manufacturers to visualize finished garments from raw fabric, automate product catalog creation and connect with buyers digitally. According to the information shared by ITAMMA, tools such as StitchMagic, currently used by 5,000+ Indian textile businesses, reduce the time required to convert fabric inventory into digital catalogues from days to minutes. By 2027, AI-powered technologies are projected to contribute ₹1.2 lakh crore in incremental value to India's textile sector through efficiency improvements and expanded market access.
AI adoption across business segments
The current AI adoption gap across Indian textile businesses is outlined as follows:
Business Size | AI Adoption | Main Tools Used |
|---|---|---|
Large manufacturers (500+ cr) | 35% | Trend AI, quality control |
Mid-size wholesalers (10-500cr) | 15% | Catalogue tools, basic automation |
Small wholesale sellers (<10cr) | 7% | Photo enhancement, What Sapp catalog |
Individual artisans | <2% | Limited smartphone tools |
ITAMMA also highlighted the shift in global fibre consumption, where man-made fibres (MMF) account for 72% of global textile fibre consumption compared with 28% for natural fibres. According to the association, this transition has increased opportunities for innovation across fibre, yarn, fabric and fashion production while making manufacturing processes more complex, increasing the relevance of AI-based monitoring and decision-making.
International conference on September 25
To promote AI awareness and knowledge among industry stakeholders, ITAMMA, jointly with SITRA and with the support of MSME, has scheduled the International Conference “AI –A Friend & Not Enemy of Textile Industry” on 25th Sept 26 at Coimbatore.
The conference will address key implementation questions, including:
- Why to apply AI?
- When to apply AI?
- Where to apply AI?
- What to apply in AI?
- How to apply AI?
International speakers proposed from MAS Holdings (Sri Lanka) and SMARTEX.AI (Portugal) will present on "AI- Contribution in the Textile Industry Globally."
The keynote address is proposed to be delivered by Dr. Sridhar Chitraju, Director, Chief Technology Officer Center of Excellence (CTO CoE), Kyndryl (former IBM).
Senior representatives have also been invited from Raymond Lifestyle Ltd., Krios Global Pvt. Ltd. (Daga Group – Import & Export Division), TT Ltd, KPR Mill Limited, and Arvind Limited to share their experience in implementing AI within textile manufacturing operations.
