Outlast Technologies’ NASA-inspired Aersulate® Wadding redefines lightweight insulation with sustainability and high thermal efficiency.

Outlast Technologies’ Aersulate® Wadding, a NASA-inspired fiber insulation, was named among the Top Ten at PERFORMANCE DAYS 2025 for its lightweight, sustainable, and high-performance innovation.

Outlast Technologies is unveiling its cutting-edge Aersulate® Wadding, a NASA-inspired fiber-based insulation, at PERFORMANCE DAYS Munich. Selected among the Top Ten innovations in the show’s prestigious Innovation Forum, Aersulate® stood out from over 2,000 global fabric submissions for its remarkable ability to deliver high thermal efficiency with minimal volume.

Revolutionary Material Science

At the heart of Aersulate® lies aerogel, known as the world’s lightest solid, consisting of up to 99% air. Outlast embeds an impressive 50% by volume of aerogel directly into viscose fibers, resulting in an insulation that is both ultra-light and exceptionally effective.

Proven Performance

Independent laboratory testing confirms that Aersulate® significantly enhances insulation compared to conventional materials:

  • +35% higher RCT values in wadding applications
  • Up to +37% higher RCT in needlefelt materials
  • Same warmth with up to 35% less bulk

These results demonstrate that Aersulate® offers outstanding warmth without additional thickness—making it ideal for high-performance apparel.

Consistent Warmth Under Compression

Unlike traditional waddings, Aersulate® maintains insulation even under pressure. While standard fillings lose trapped air (and thus warmth) when compressed—such as during sitting or kneeling—Aersulate®’s aerogel-enriched microstructure locks in air within stable pores, preventing thermal loss. This allows it to maintain consistent warmth even in humid or compressed conditions. Perfect for outerwear, ski gear, and technical workwear, it delivers reliable performance in all environments.

Sustainable by Design

Aersulate® merges aerogel derived from quartz sand with renewable, wood-based viscose, creating a sustainable, animal-free alternative to down and conventional synthetic fills—without compromising on performance.
