A Penteadora Starts Up ANDRITZ Textile Recycling and Nonwoven Production Lines in Portugal
New production lines support recycled textile processing and nonwoven manufacturing using pre- and post-consumer textile waste
A Penteadora SA has commissioned a complete mechanical textile recycling line and a needlepunch nonwoven line supplied by ANDRITZ at its production facility in Unhais da Serra, Portugal. The investment expands the company's production capabilities and supports the development of products based on pre- and post-consumer recycled textiles.
The input materials for the new lines include A Penteadora's own production waste as well as textile waste from external sources. Both production lines are now fully operational, with the first products expected to reach the market in July.
New Recycling and Nonwoven Lines Begin Operations
ANDRITZ needlepunch nonwoven line
The installation includes advanced picker technology, described as one of its kind on the Iberian Peninsula, designed to remove hard components such as buttons and zippers from textile waste. The system is intended to improve material quality and process efficiency during recycling.
According to the company, the new investment enables the conversion of textile waste into materials suitable for industrial applications while supporting resource efficiency.

Mechanical Recycling Line
The mechanical textile recycling line includes:

- Blending
- Fiber opening
- Carding
The system is designed to process complex materials, including wool/synthetic blends and technical fibers.
Needlepunch Line for Industrial Applications
The needlepunch nonwoven line is designed to manufacture high-performance materials for applications such as:
- Thermal insulation
- Acoustic barriers
- Protective solutions
