TOOLBOX – The NIFT Showcase 2019

NIFT invites you for the “TOOLBOX” – A space where magic happens. An event to showcase the on-going work and achievements of the Institution

‘TOOLBOX, will bring forth the innovative, creative and the eclectic work of the NIFT students and faculty from all the NIFT Campuses. The event will highlight the best graduation projects of design, management and technology students and other academic initiatives. NIFT will showcase students’ work with the purpose of shining the spotlight on their efforts and creativity at “TOOLBOX” which displays award-winning graduation projects and other academic initiatives from each NIFT campus. The event will also showcase various activities in the craft sector and the mega projects that NIFT has recently forayed into. The 2-day event will be held at NIFT Delhi Campus on 30th and 31st of August 2019.

 

Highlights of Toolbox 2019

 Exhibition of Crafts based Graduation Projects; Craft Based Design Project; Craft documents and films on Crafts

Graduation Projects-Best collection from Fashion Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Fashion Communication, Accessory Design and Leather Design from all campuses.

The students of Fashion Communication undertake the Graduating Projects in their final semester of academics of NIFT. While by working on real professional projects in the domains of Graphic Design, Branding, Advertising, UI/UX design, Fashion Styling, Photography, Writing, Visual Merchandising Journalism, Styling, Photography, Visual Merchandising, Publication design and Film, the students demonstrate integration of values, perspectives, and skills in a professional environment.

The Knitwear Design programme prepares professionals for the knitwear industry, focusing mainly on knitwear design and associated subjects. Every year, the graduating students of Knitwear Design present Knitmoda, a fabulous design collection of knitwear styles, that showcases their skill,  knowledge  and  creativity as a  knitwear designer. Carrying forward this illustrious trail, this year’s knitwear graduates across the seven centres of NIFT, showcased yet another captivating array of knitwear collections and the best collection from each centre is selected for the event, so as to showcase the best out of the best.

The Textile Design programme equips students with knowledge and hones their creativity and understanding of design application for apparel and home fashion industries. Woven, print design, embroidery and surface embellishment are the core textile subjects and together impart an extensive and versatile training for the students. The Textile Design students undertake sponsored Graduation Project in their final year with the industry for a period of 16 weeks to develop design collections. The projects are sponsored by textile mills, export houses, home and apparel retail brands, designers or NGOs. The students are also given choice to undertake self-sponsored or research projects. The Graduation Project culminates with academic evaluation and final showcase of students’ work in an annual show. Toolbox 2019 presents the best textile design graduate collections from 12 campuses.

Fashion Design program is synonymous with the Indian fashion industry. A flagship program of NIFT, it has played an influential role to produce dynamic professionals with an ability to develop and channelize creativity. The curriculum hones design sensitization, which balances global fashion aesthetics with an Indian soul. It addresses needs of the export market as well as both couture and prêt a porter clothing in India, expanding and categorizing apparel design into niche segments. The department @ the “Toolbox” exhibits a distinctive array of design interpretations ranging from retail to couture, practical to creative and local to global aspects of fashion.

The final year students of Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories programme go to the industry and work aggressively to design and realise their dream collection for their graduation projects. This year, one student from each campus will get an opportunity to showcase his/her award winning collection at the Toolbox. Products designed by students of Semester-7 during their crafts based design project will also be showcased in NIFT Toolbox 2019.

Master of Design is all about creating strategies through a systematic process employing modern approaches to learning through innovation in planning, design and products. Within the dynamic setup of design, technology and craft at the TOOLBOX 2019, the work of the Master of Design students through a poster display from the four campuses that it is offered at, showcases the research acumen of the MDes students.

Seminar by Department of Fashion Technology on 30th August 2019 on Future Shape of Apparel and Information Technology Enabled Transformation in Apparel Manufacturing. The emerging technologies like AI, ML, IoT and robotics are beginning to make an impact in making manufacturing smart and connected while opening a new chapter of innovations in products and processes. Every year students of Department of Fashion Technology work on numerous topical issues, researching, experimenting, and implementing solutions across industries in India and abroad. On 30th August 2019, Seminar by DFT, will present 16 such innovative projects researched by students. There will be two technical sessions; morning session will cover the Innovations in functional clothing & accessories and afternoon session will focus on Information Technology Enabled Transformation in Apparel Manufacturing.

 Industry Round-table on Fashion Retailing, Merchandising and Marketing by the Department of Master of Fashion Management on 31st August 2019. The Department of Fashion Management Studies over the last three decades have been continuously redesigning the fashion business education curriculum to lead the fashion industry. It’s flagship program, Master of Fashion Management (MFM) is offered at 14 out of 16 NIFT campuses and has annual intake of 560 students. The Toolbox will showcase the ‘best of the best’ graduate work to leading alumni and industry members. There will also be an industry presentation to demonstrate the future of fashion business in this seminar titled “Will Generative Fashion Merchandising be the future in the era of Artificial Intelligence?”

Usttad Project Exhibition- Ministry of Minority Affairs has sanctioned a project better known as Upgrading the Skills and Training in Traditional Arts/Crafts for Development (USTTAD) to NIFT. NIFT faculty and alumni designers are working with 25 crafts across the country to train and develop new products to open up new markets for the traditional artisans. Products developed in Craft Clusters for the project will be displayed to showcase the innovation and adaptability of our skilled artisans and designers.

NIFT Mega Projects– NIFT has taken up four projects sponsored by the Ministry of Textiles: Visionxt- for Trend forecasting; The Repository- digital portal for Indian Textiles and Crafts; Design Innovation Incubator- for encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship in the areas of Fashion, Textiles and Accessories; and INDIAsize- mapping the body sizes to come up with Indian size measurements for clothing. Posters with detailed information on these projects is being showcased at TOOLBOX 2019.

NIFT Faculty Showcase- The ‘Faculty Showcase’ is a unique opportunity for the multi-talented NIFT faculty, who are professionals drawn from various fields weaving their perspectives to the field of fashion to present their intrinsic talents. All NIFT faculty across the length and breadth of the country were invited to present their talent and skills in the area of painting, photography, artwork, sculpture or installations developed by them from time to time. A microcosm of the curated work is presented at the exhibition.
