Kshiteeja Gandre, 22, has been named the winner of the SDC’s International Design Competition’s India heat.
The recent fashion design graduate from the School of Fashion Technology in Pune drew inspiration for her genuinely outstanding contribution, Intergalactic Exploration, from space exploration.
“The designs and colours used in this series are highly contemporary and digital,” stated Kshiteeja. They are influenced by vivid colours and flowing patterns that suggest journeys through dark matter that serve as wormholes to neighbouring galaxies. “The colours are dramatic, exciting, and energising.” This collection’s main focus is on ecology and textiles with unique qualities. Milk fibre fabric, created from leftover milk and dubbed the “future material,” is used beside orange fibre textiles and corn fabric.
“I used Azo-free colours that are environmentally friendly and do not contain hazardous ingredients.” The clothing I designed can be separated and inverted as desired by the user. One piece which can be used in a variety of ways is also beneficial to the environment!”
Kshiteeja strives to follow her own sustainable fashion dreams, designing fashionable clothes that are not harmful to the environment. The tournament, which is conducted by volunteer founders in countries involved, is an important event in the SDC calendar and demonstrates our dedication to promoting worldwide university education while also conducting our own training and skills development programme.
The topic for this year is ‘Colour and the Universe,’ and the competition, sponsored by Archroma, involves hundreds of students, universities, and designers from around the world. Its goal is to assist participants in developing their knowledge of colour and the problems associated with sustainability in the textile supply chain.
Kshiteeja will advance to our finals series to compete for the famous Veronica Bell Trophy. Mallika Dabhade-Samant, her teacher, stated, “For the past 21 years, MKSSS’s School of Fashion Technology in Pune has worked hard to support green fashion and a sustainable approach via education, research, and design.” We are really delighted that our students have carried on this tradition through their artistic activity on a national and international scale!
