What a way to celebrate World Cotton Day (October 7, 2021). Professor Seshadri Ramkumar made a presentation on oil absorption property of cotton nonwoven mat to the 2021 Leadership Lubbock Group in Lubbock as way of celebrating cotton and its industrial applications. This presentation made on October 7th in Lubbock’s English Newsom Cellars facility is timely as the Orange County (CA) beaches in the United States are seeing oil spill since October 4, 2021.

Lacey Nobles, Communications and Marketing Director of the City of Lubbock did a spontaneous evaluation of cotton nonwoven’s ability to absorb oil. The nonwoven mat instantaneously absorbed oil. Cotton’s applications in industrial sectors are beginning to grow.

Leadership Lubbock Group organized by Lubbock Chamber of Commerce represents different sectors ranging from City Government to finance and industry. It is good to showcase cotton’s potential to such an esteemed audience of over 40 people.

Mirza Khyum and Faizur Rahman, graduate students from the Nonwovens & Advanced Materials Laboratory, Texas Tech University joined Dr. Ramkumar in the presentation.
