Egypt’s garment trade has grown significantly and now exceeds EGP 300 billion per year. According to Mohamed Abdel Salem, Chairperson of the Federation of Egyptian Industries’ Ready-Made Garments Chamber, this is due to a decrease in imports caused by Decree No. 42, which obliged importers to register with the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC). Furthermore, the Ready-Made Garment Chamber and Gahez Digital Marketing recently announced a collaborative agreement.
These characteristics, according to Salem, encouraged local enterprises in developing their products and producing high-quality clothing to suit market demands. The Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) is one of the country’s main employers’ organisations, representing over 60,000 industrial businesses, with over 90% of them belonging to the private sector, which employs over 7 million people and accounting for 20% of the country’s GDP.
