India has seen tremendous growth in H1 ’21 in its cotton yarn exports in the global market, as shown by Ministry of Commerce and Industry data.

The growth has come despite a lot of outrage by India’s apparel manufacturing industry on cotton yarn exports.

Many garment manufacturing clusters, including Noida, have sought a complete ban on the export of Indian cotton and yarn so that the production in the domestic apparel industry can be increased, and the finished products can be exported internationally to fetch more revenue.

Bangladesh was the top exporting destination for the Indian cotton yarn as the revenues clocked from this country valued US $ 631.13 million – that’s almost 32 per cent of total shipment value.

China remained at the second spot with shipment value of US $ 462.24 million worth. Indian exporters of cotton yarn noted 74 per cent jump in the Chinese market from H1 ’20.

Amongst top 10 countries where India shipped cotton yarns in H1 ’21, only Turkey witnessed decline in its import from India.
