Vietnam’s garment-textile export turnover reached almost 19 billion USD in the first six months of 2021, an increase of more than 20% year on year.
Vietnam is set to earn 39 billion USD from garment and textile exports in 2021, according to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) Vu Duc Giang. However, businesses need to proactively seek sources of raw materials for domestic production in order to take advantage of opportunities from new-generation free trade agreements that Vietnam has joined. Vinatex chairman Le Tien Truong said businesses are facing new challenges due to severe impacts of the fourth wave of COVID-19 outbreaks which started from late April.
Businesses should encourage chain-based production and have particular procedures in place to increase markets, therefore increasing exports, according to Giang.
Other garment and textile company representatives stated that firms should focus on modernising manufacturing equipment, expanding output, and boosting worker capacity in order to satisfy high quality orders and the exacting needs of importers.
