Nanovia is collaborating with a fishing net recycling programme in Brittany, France, to develop PA-6 Nylon filaments for thermoplastic extrusion 3D printing.
In 2019, Guingamp-Paimpol Agglomération began investigating innovative methods for disposing of old fishing nets. The Coopération Maritime has established the RECYPECH initiative, which seeks to improve the disposal and treatment of trash generated by the industrial fishing industry. They will separate the nets’ various components (metal rings, ropes/selvage, and nylon nets) and mail them to their appropriate recycling sectors.
Nanovia, a French startup, will manufacture 3D printer filaments using recycled fishing nets from France’s west coast. PA-6 R, the first nylon filament, will be available in 2021, while PA6 CF R, a nylon filament reinforced with carbon fibres from the aviation sector and fluid distribution, will be available in 2022. Both will be available for purchase before the end of 2021.
