As additional lockdown limitations are likely to be lifted by Monday, the labor-intensive clothing sector has requested authorization from the State government to operate at full capacity.
The Karnataka Employers’ Association urged the government to increase worker strength to 100 percent or at least 75 percent in the interests of the industry, since employee vaccinations had begun. Garment units in this city have gotten good national and international orders with rigorous deadlines, and if they are not met, units may face penalties. Over 1,000 export-oriented units in Karnataka had been badly impacted by the shutdown, with losses estimated to be over 5,250 crore.
