Designers Kimberly Goldson and Shelly Powell presented a new collection at New York Fashion Week inspired by Black hair! The Brooklyn-based sisters debuted their Kimberly Goldson “Hairitage” collection as part of Harlem Fashion Row’s 13th Annual Fashion Show & Style Awards presentation.

The brand has never been afraid to play with patterns and textures — and this collection is no exception. A mix of striped florals, plaids, and sequins served as the backdrop for their signature flowing pantsuits (including one with tassels), body-hugging sheaths, and shimmering separates.

However, the main attraction was a quartet of 3D tees and sweatshirts adorned with a blonde afro, burgundy blunt-cut bob, down-to-there cornrows, and copper curls.

The duo collaborated with fashion designer and illustrator Taylor Ramsie to create the limited-edition tees “highlighting and revering every curl, kink and coil.”

“This collection is one of my proudest moments,” said Kimberly during the virtual presentation. She said the move to celebrate the beauty of hair came from a dream her sister Shelly had earlier this year about Black women’s hair and texture. “She just saw hair.” A few months later, she went back to her sister and said, “That’s the inspo for Fall 2020!”

Models Nyadhour Deng and Tiarra Pearson strutted a vibrant blue runway in banded textured ponytails coiffed by lead hairstylist Keith Campbell, and bold eye looks painted by makeup artist Ke’na Marcell and team. Styled by Brittany Reed, the looks were paired with heels from Black-owned shoe brand Keeyahri.
