Indian and US Scientists with a team of 11 members will soon be scouting for out of the box solutions. This will be including novel early diagnostic tests, antiviral therapy, drug re-purposing, ventilator research, and sensor-based symptom tracking for COVID 19, this statement was passed by the Department of Science and Technology. The teams have been selected by taking up these initiatives through a rigorous bi-national review process of proposals reviewed under Covid-19 Ignition Grants in April ’20. This initiative was taken by the US-India Science and Technology Endowment Fund (USISTEF).

This institution has been established by India and the United States of America for innovation and entrepreneurship which will be done through promotion of joint activities using science and technology. As the world is facing the Covid-19 pandemic this initiative was put in force and it was read out as- “The joint US-India S&T based entrepreneurial teams will work on initiatives that address the development and implementation of new technologies, tools, and systems to address COVID-19 related challenges including monitoring, diagnosis, health and safety, public outreach, information, and communication.”

According to USISTEF announced, it was implied that awards will be provided to the 11 bilateral teams proposing out-of-box innovative ideas to address the Covid-19 challenge. In this covid-19 battle which the world is fighting; science, engineering and technology will play a critical role in finding solutions to the global challenge. These solutions can be found out only by the development of new vaccines, devices, diagnostic tools and the information systems.

The mission of the United StatesIndia Science & Technology Endowment Fund is to support and foster joint applied research and development to generate public good through the commercialization of technology developed through partnerships between US and Indian researchers and entrepreneurs to help combat this pandemic, the statement added.
