Just when you thought you had seen it all when it comes to bizarre denim trends – think Topshop’s PVC panels or Re/Done’s High-Rise Ass Rip Jeans – another designer comes along with perhaps the most impractical piece of clothing ever. Enter, thong jeans.
Arguably the most scandalous pair yet, designer Thibaut unveiled a pair of jeans that expose your entire bum earlier this week at Amazon Fashion Week in Tokyo.
The risqué style debuted as part of the brand’s Spring Summer 2018 collection and took cut-out jeans to a whole new level with the front and rear panels of the legs completely removed, leaving nothing but the seams.
Styled with a nude bodysuit and a pair of scruffy New Balance trainers, the model sashayed down the runway with her rear on full view and, while we’re used to seeing peculiar riffs on wardrobe staples in high fashion, is this taking this too far?
Another person wrote, “Meanwhile, throwing your jeans under a lawn mower seems to be the new fashion. Thong Jeans.”
While not everyone is keen to get their hands on a pair, it’s far from the first questionable pair of jeans to hit the market.
We’ve had Alexander McQueen’s 1993 “bumster” jeans that sat several inches lower than normal to expose the top portion of the rear, Asos’ booty-baring pair and a collaboration between designer streetwear brand Vetements and Levi’s that saw a zipper run down the centre of the derriere
