A government push to boost UK face cover production has begun at two sites in England and Wales.

After 10 production lines were procured, the government worked with suppliers in Port Talbot and Blackburn to start producing high-quality face coverings. In the coming weeks, another site in Livingston, Scotland, will also begin manufacturing them.

“This is a major step to ensure that this country can meet any increase in demand for face coverings by working with British firms to establish the capability, capacity and skills required to manufacture these items at scale,” said chancellor Michael Gove.

The government has bought ten production lines including 34 tons of equipment and machinery and the machines have been built throughout the UK following checks and tests at a machine maker, DCR Machines in Leeds. A further ten production lines were ordered from Coventry based UK automotive firm, Expert Tooling and Automation.
