BAHAWALPUR: The cotton crop is under attack of white fly in the district.

Dawn learnt that the cotton crop spread over acres seems in good condition but the attack of white fly may cause its production to decline if it is not repulsed by the farmers and agriculture field staff.

The crop is in dire need of pesticides’ spray which may help reduce the damage to the cotton plants.

After sowing of the cotton in the district, the locust swarms had hit the crop but even then it survived and its growth was satisfactory.

District Director Agriculture Shafiq Ahmed confirmed to Dawn that the cotton crop was under the attack of white fly but claimed that it was a mild attack which could be curtailed with the timely spray of pesticides by the farmers. He said about 25pc of the cotton crop came under attack. He said the cotton was cultivated over 684,000 acres in the district.
