Without having to go to work, Sunday brunches, movies dates or parties, our shirts, suits, formal dresses, denims and high heels are napping in the closet while casual slip dresses, comfortable pajama sets and fancy slippers are out. Fashionistas and quarantine queens are using what they’ve found lying around in their homes to create chic, stay-at-home pajama looks. To sum it up, #HomeCouture is replacing #HauteCouture in the most creative ways. “Given the current scenario, people are realising the importance of comfort over style. Something that oscillates from easy breezy work-from-home attire to lounge wear is our new 9 to 5 clothing choice. Thus, pajama chic is picking up steam in the time of lockdown,” says designer Aniket Satam. More than a pair of top and trousers Pajama Chic is more than a pair of loose trousers and shirt and can be interpreted in varied styles. “Pajamas can be as versatile as you want them to be – pair them with a camisole, a crop top and an oversized shirt thrown over as overlay with a pair of sneakers. When times change, wear it with strappy stilettos and a boyfriend blazer,” Samyukta Nair, founder of a sleepwear label. Think loose, silk bowling shirt with wide boxer shorts, retro-style velour tracksuit set or simply a xxl hoodie sweatshirt paired with leggings. “For your next virtual date or dinner, style your bedroom essentials with accessories such as printed scraves. Mix and match patterns like florals with stripes, Gingham with polka, for a fun summery look. Alternatively, you can slip in a delicate lace and silk camisole for layering. Easy girlie ascents such as pearl earrings, layered medallion chain neckpieces add a dose of fun to the look,” adds Satam. What’s trending

Wearing a pair of pajamas can be extremely stylish. “Opt for shirts with quirky collars, choose bold colours with contrast trimmings, and fun fabrics that add a sleeker edge,” says designer Saaksha Bhatt. “The most popular trend in pajamas is the solid-coloured collared set with contrast trimmings. Abstract prints, colour blocking and slogans are in vogue tooo. Mixing and matching can add a fun element – not just colour blocking and colour mixing but also pairing contrast prints together,” adds Bhatt.
PICK YOUR PAJAMA WISELY

Pick your pajama set keeping in mind the occasion as well as the Indian tropical weather. For Indian summers, Egyptian cotton, mul and cotton silk work wonders. “Cotton silk maintains a light, breezy feel. Satin is also a good option for a lightweight, more formal approach. Opt for a satin fabric to create a smart casual look. For meetings, pick darker colours as opposed to bright colour blocking, and pick prints that are more subtle,” says designer Kinnari Kamat.
