Setting New Benchmarks for the Textile Industry

Bharat Tex 2025, India’s largest and most prestigious global textile event, concluded on a high note, reinforcing the nation’s leadership in Man-Made Fibres (MMF) and Technical Textiles. The event provided a dynamic platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and businesses to explore innovations, investment opportunities, and global collaborations.

A Focus on MMF & Technical Textiles

Shri Bhadresh Dodhia, Chairman of MATEXIL (Man-Made Fibre and Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council) and Co-Chairman of the Core Committee, emphasized the significance of Bharat Tex 2025 in promoting MMF and Technical Textiles.

Bharat Tex 2025 has provided an incredible platform to showcase India’s growing strength in Man-Made Fibre and Technical Textiles,” said Shri Dodhia.

With over 250 companies participating through MATEXIL, the event spotlighted India’s export potential in MMF textiles, including fibres, yarns, fabrics, made-ups (such as home textiles), and technical textiles. Additionally, 370 foreign buyers from diverse global markets attended the event, strengthening international business opportunities.

Prime Minister’s Visit & Industry Insights

During Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit on February 16, 2025, Shri Dodhia briefed him on India’s advancements in MMF textiles and recycling. While India has long held dominance in cotton textiles, Shri Dodhia highlighted the nation’s rapid strides in MMF and its readiness for increased investments to meet rising global demand.

One of the key highlights was the presentation of a garment made from recycled plastic bottles retrieved from the sea, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ocean cleaning and sustainability. This showcased India’s commitment to eco-friendly textile production and circular economy initiatives.

Empowering MSMEs in Textiles

Recognizing the vital role of MSMEs in the textile sector, Prime Minister Modi urged financial institutions to facilitate greater credit access for small and medium enterprises. Shri Dodhia welcomed the government’s National Manufacturing Mission, introduced in Union Budget 2025, stating that it will boost MSMEs, which contribute 80% of India’s textile manufacturing capacity.

Additionally, new MSME definitions in the budget will help businesses scale up production while continuing to benefit from government incentives.

Sustainability, Innovation & Growth in Technical Textiles

The Prime Minister underscored the need for youth-led innovations in sustainable textiles and technical textiles. Shri Dodhia noted that India’s domestic technical textiles market has expanded to USD 22 billion and that MATEXIL is actively working on a strategic action plan to boost exports in this sector.

Recycling & Upcycling – A Sustainable Future

Addressing concerns about fast fashion’s environmental impact, Prime Minister Modi stressed the urgency of recycling and upcycling textiles. Shri Dodhia affirmed that textile recycling will require significant investments but remains confident that growing sustainability awareness will drive new funding and business models aligned with government initiatives.

Bharat Tex 2025 – A New Chapter for Indian Textiles

As Bharat Tex 2025 concludes, the industry looks ahead with renewed optimism.

This is not just the end of an event but the beginning of a new era for Indian textiles. We are committed to transforming this momentum into tangible growth and solidifying India’s position as a global leader in textiles and apparel,” said Shri Bhadresh Dodhia.

With sustainability, innovation, and investment at its core, Bharat Tex 2025 has paved the way for India’s textile industry to expand its global footprint and embrace the future of manufacturing.
