The 18th edition of the Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) commenced today in Amritsar, promising a vibrant five-day showcase of diverse textile products and handicrafts. This year’s event is set to be the largest yet, with over 600 exhibitors from India and four neighbouring countries participating.
A Global Textile Extravaganza
Exhibitors from Afghanistan, Egypt, Pakistan, and Thailand are joining the event, alongside representatives from eight Indian states and Union Territories. Notably, Gujarat will be participating for the first time, with 20 exhibitors, including the Gujarat State Handloom, showcasing their exquisite textiles.
Highlighting India’s Rich Heritage
National bodies such as the Handicraft Development Corporation Limited, National Jute Board, J&K Trade Promotional Organization (J&KTPO), KVIC, NABARD, Textile Manufacturers Association of India, Shawl Club, Ministry of MSME, and Directorate of Industries and Commerce, UT Ladakh, will also be present at the expo.
To promote tourism in Punjab, PITEX will host a heritage show showcasing the state’s ancient culture, with Bollywood star Jimmy Shergill as a special guest.
A Platform for Local Artisans and Businesses
The expo will feature a wide range of products, including textiles, handicrafts, and agricultural produce from Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, and the Union Territory of Leh-Ladakh.
Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney emphasized the importance of PITEX in strengthening local business relations with neighbouring states. Various public sector units (PSUs) from Punjab, including Markfed, Milkfed, PEDA, APEDA, and Punjab Khadi and Village Industries Corporation, will also be participating, providing a platform for local artisans and businesses to showcase their products to a global audience.
With an expected footfall of over three lakh visitors, PITEX 2024 is poised to be a significant event for the textile industry and a celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage.
