The first release in ALLIED’s Future Now: Designing to Disappear program, the Templa jacket will fully biodegrade in approximately 5 years

ALLIED Feather + Down (AF+D), global leaders in high performance, ethically sourced, and recycled down, in partnership with premier performance wear manufacturer Active Apparel Group and luxury outdoor performance brand Templa, are proud to announce their new, 99%+ biodegradable down puffy jacket collaboration is a 2024 ISPO Award winner.

Using biodegradable 800 fill power down insulation, biodegradable synthetic fabrics and trims from AAG, and stylish performance silhouettes from Templa, this new jacket is made to vanish entirely from the earth after about five years in an anaerobic environment.

“ALLIED is proud to kick off our new Future Now: program with AAG and Templa and the Designing to Disappear project, and what better way to do so than with an ISPO award,” said Matthew Betcher, creative director with ALLIED. “As a renewable, biodegradable by-product of the food supply chain, down is supremely suited for use in any sustainability-minded apparel program. Not only is it biodegradable, but it is recyclable and boasts an exceedingly low carbon footprint as a raw material. It’s the perfect insulation to combine with biodegradable fabrics and trims.”

Templa’s reputation as a high-end outdoor performance brand that deftly blends the worlds of urban and alpine fashion is reflected in this award-winning jacket design. The special component materials that AAG sourced to transform this item from a fashionable puffy jacket into a genuinely sustainable and considerate clothing that will depart this earth without a trace are what further elevate and distinguish this design.

“We are truly honored to accept the ISPO Award for Future Now: Designing to Disappear – The Biodegradable Project,” said Anati Rakocz, Founding Partner with Templa. “For us, this project is more than just an interesting silhouette or new technology; it is about making responsible choices for meaningful change. And we’re grateful that our efforts, alongside AAG and Allied Feather + Down, have been acknowledged by our industry leaders, reinforcing our belief in the power of collaboration for the greater good.”

The B Corp-certified Active Apparel Group draws from an extensive network of materials sourcing experts and leverages superior craftsmanship in manufacturing this one-of-a-kind jacket. All fill, trims, and fabrics are 99%+ biodegradable, backed by testing by Amni Soul Eco® by Solvay and CiCLO®.

“As the lines between performance outdoor apparel and fashion continue to blur, and an ever-increasing need for more sustainable products drives innovation, we decided it was time to bring these elements together in our Future Now: Designing to Disappear jacket,” said Lori Oscher, Group Chief Design Officer, Active Apparel Group. “With AAG’s recent B Corp certification, ALLIED’s dedication to sustainable, ethically sourced down, and Templa’s unparalleled ability to design fashion-forward performance wear, we knew we were onto something truly unique, and we couldn’t be happier that the ISPO judges agreed.”
