This Diwali, ReCircle’s most popular consumer-driven initiative, Diwali Waste Collection Drive made a huge difference that went beyond festivities! The resource recovery enterprise announced today that it has collected 45,000+kgs of dry waste durings its largest ever Diwali Waste Collection Drive in Mumbai.

From October 14-27, 2024, the 300+ people team & 150+ vehicles reached over 3000 households for free door to door pickups across Mumbai Western Line, Mumbai Central Line and Navi Mumbai and collected all types of dry waste including paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, e-waste, clothing, footwear and utensils.

“The numbers speak for itself; we are at a point where we have to intentionally make decisions about how we live our lives and how much we consume if we want to have a sustainable future. In recent times, endless cycles of ‘best deals and sales’ have skyrocketed waste in our landfills and oceans, pushing us to think about whose problem it really is. We believe in the power of a mindful community towards making a lasting change. This Diwali, we met a lot of conscious people/ silent waste warriors during our door-to-door pickups who are eager to change their consumption habits and incorporate sustainability into their daily lives. They are the main reason we have collected and will now divert 45,000+kgs of waste”, said Rahul Nainani, CEO & Co-Founder, ReCircle.

Now, the collected dry waste will be sent to ReCircle’s Material & Textile Recovery Facility in Dahisar, Mumbai. The waste will then be segregated by ReCircle’s informal waste workers or Safai Saathis where it is cleaned, processed and bailed. This processed waste is then sent out to recyclers who convert it into raw material for new products, diverting it from landfills and our water bodies back into the economy, thus ensuring complete traceability and transparency.

Over the past three editions, ReCircle has consistently doubled its environmental and social impact. Starting with approximately 5000 kgs in 2021, the company reached 10,000 kgs in 2022, and 20,000 kgs in 2023. Last Diwali, through the hard work and dedication of its team team, and the collective spirit of Mumbai, ReCircle met its goal by collecting 20,369 kgs.

Formed in partnership with Dabur India Limited, all the proceeds from individual households, societies, schools, colleges and offices of #PuranaSamaan will be donated to ReCircle’s partner NGO for the last four years, St. Catherine School of Siena and Orphanage. The non-profit aims to provide a safe space for underprivileged children and empower them through education and rehabilitation-based projects.
