Uttar Pradesh is poised to revolutionise the Indian textile industry with a massive investment of over Rs 10,000 crore from leading domestic textile and garment manufacturers. The proposed mega textile park, spanning 1,162 acres across Lucknow and Hardoi districts, is set to attract industry giants such as Reliance Industries, Arvind Mills, Vardhman, and Ahuja Textile Mills, among others.
A Mega Textile Hub Takes Shape
The ambitious project is expected to spawn approximately 400 large-scale textile manufacturing and processing plants, creating a direct and indirect employment opportunity for over three lakh individuals. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently announced that the textile hub is projected to attract a total investment of Rs 15,000 crore.
A senior state government official revealed that around a dozen companies have already expressed keen interest in securing land allocations within the park. This surge in interest is further fueled by the recent political turmoil in Bangladesh, which has led to the closure of numerous small and medium-sized textile units in the country.
Capitalising on Global Opportunities
With India aiming to achieve a lofty garment export target of $100 billion in the next five years, the UP Textile Park is strategically positioned to bolster domestic production and contribute significantly to this goal. Rakesh Sachan, the state’s MSME, Khadi, and Textile Minister, emphasised the park’s role in establishing India as a global leader in textiles, garments, and apparel.
The park is envisioned as a comprehensive textile ecosystem, encompassing not only manufacturing and processing but also a wide range of value-added services, including training, marketing, designing, packaging, manpower, consultancy, and export facilitation.
Building on a Strong Textile Heritage
Uttar Pradesh boasts a rich textile heritage with renowned hubs like Varanasi, Lucknow, Bhadohi, and Gorakhpur. Recognizing the sector’s immense potential as a major employment generator, the state government is actively promoting its growth. A recent collaboration with Raymond Group aims to skill the youth in garmenting and tailoring, further strengthening the state’s textile workforce.
Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of Raymond, lauded Uttar Pradesh as a crucial textile market during his recent visit to Lucknow. The state’s strategic initiatives and supportive policies are expected to solidify its position as a global textile manufacturing destination.
