Strategic Collaboration Aims to Drive Growth of and Access to Recycled Fibres

Birla Cellulose, Circ, a US-based textile-to-textile recycling innovator, and the Aditya Birla Group’s cellulosic fibers business, which is one of the top producers of Man-Made Cellulosic Fibre (MMCF) worldwide through its flagship company Grasim Industries Limited, have announced a long-term strategic partnership aimed at speeding up the expansion of fiber recycling in the textile industry.

This innovative partnership suggests that Birla Cellulose buy up to 5,000 tons of Circ’s pulp annually from Circ’s first commercial-scale operation for a duration of five years. By turning this pulp into lyocell staple fiber, Circ will be able to expand its commercial production and greatly improve access to recycled resources.

“Our partnership with Birla Cellulose, a leading global producer of MMCFs, is significant as it demonstrates both Circ’s ongoing progress towards scalability as well as the industry’s commitment to investing in a truly circular economy,” said Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ. “Together, we are poised to create a more sustainable fashion future by integrating recycled materials into textiles on the global stage.”

Dr. Aspi Patel, Chief Technology Officer of Grasim Industries Limited, said, This collaboration is an important step in promoting innovation in the textile sector and demonstrates our strong commitment to environmental stewardship. We are greatly increasing the possibility of a really circular economy by fusing our cellulosic fibers with Circ’s state-of-the-art recycling technology.”

The supply chain will be crucial in meeting demand as eco-friendly products become more and more important to customers and companies. The collaboration between Birla Cellulose and Circ serves as an example of how important teamwork is to successfully scaling recycling programs. Because the demand for recycled materials is greater than the supply, Birla Cellulose is prepared to purchase and use Circ pulp, guaranteeing that its clients will have access to premium recycled Circ Lyocell. Through this collaboration, supply chain partners and brands may participate and contribute to the future of the global fashion industry.

Through cutting-edge technology and material reuse, both businesses are dedicated to advancing circular economy principles and lessening their negative effects on the environment. Additionally, they share a vision for a sustainable future and pledge to establish new standards.
