With the release of its new Mammut Loopinsulation for the 2024 winter season, Switzerland-based mountain sports supplier Mammut is improving both performance and sustainability. Made from production waste from industrial rope manufacturing, this novel insulator was created in partnership with Teufelberger, an Austrian rope company. The leftovers are recycled mechanically—chemicals are not used—and become premium insulation.
The program is a component of Mammut’s larger carbon footprint management plan. Following an examination in 2018, Mammut looked into recycling solutions because rope manufacturing was shown to be a substantial source of CO2 emissions. The outcome, loop insulation, is a significant step forward in resource-conscious and cyclical material reuse.
The Sender IN Hooded Jacket is one item that demonstrates the use of loop insulation in action. It has an outer shell made of recycled materials that repels water and wind. With this advancement, Mammut is one step closer to realizing its vision of an entirely sustainable, circular production process.
Mammut has effectively turned 12 tons of leftover rope into insulation for the next season. The procedure showed how difficult it is to achieve a circular economy because it involved overcoming obstacles relating to differences in rope diameter, quality, and color.
