Raysil®, Grasim Industries Limited’s Viscose Filament Yarn (VFY) Business stands as India’s largest manufacturer of Viscose Filament Yarn. Belonging to the prestigious Aditya Birla Group, Grasim’s VFY manufacturing units in Indian Rayon in Veraval, Gujarat and Century Rayon in Kalyan, Maharashtra, are at the forefront of the industry adopting the latest technologies and best practices.

Raysil® has collaborated with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), which is a premier institution in India dedicated to fashion education and research. Established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, NIFT having 19 campuses across India has emerged as a leader in nurturing talent in the field of fashion and design.

Such collaborations create a symbiotic relationship where academia benefits from industry expertise and resources, while the industry gains access to fresh talent, innovative ideas, and research outcomes. It also contributes to the overall growth and development of the fashion and textiles sector in India. In the first year of the association, Raysil® is working with seven NIFT centres (Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Jodhpur, Gandhinagar, Mumbai & Kannur) on the following projects:

  1. Raysil® Design Couture Award for final semester students where Raysil® sponsors all the fabric, and reimburses expenses done for dyeing, printing, embroidery, stitching etc. A jury comprising of NIFT faculty and Raysil® executives selects the best collection and the winner gets a cash prize, certificate and chance to display the ensembles at Raysil® design studios, offices & exhibitions across the country.
  2. Conducting Raysil® workshops & awareness sessions for the students and faculty at NIFT centres to spread information about Viscose Filament Yarn products, applications, and different types of fabrics along with specific characteristics and ways to identify the same.
  3. Enriching the Resource centres at NIFTs by providing yarn, fabric, and Raysil® collections for educating the students in building understanding about the Textiles
  4. Sponsoring the annual events at NIFTs like Spectrum, Graduation Day, Fashionova, Alumni Meet, Converge, and gifting on Women’s Day & Teachers’ Day.
  5. Publishing of fashion-related articles in the NIFT Industry & Alumni newsletter
  6. Arranging Industrial visits of students & faculty at the manufacturing facilities of Raysil®
  7. Connecting with local artisans for developing creations using Raysil yarns and fabrics

Raysil® is committed to continuing its collaboration with NIFT and plans to extend its association with other centres going forward as these collaborations aim to bridge the gap between industry requirements and academic curriculum, foster innovation in the textile and fashion industry, and provide opportunities for students to gain practical experience.
