The Indian textile sector has undergone a huge transformation with the awarding of the prestigious Oeko-Tex accreditation to Eri Silk, a well-known fabric from Assam. The August 15th announcement emphasizes how important sustainable practices are becoming to the industry.

For the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC), a division of the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), receiving accreditation is a significant accomplishment. Eri Silk is the only vegan silk in the world. Its production process is special because it lets the silk moth come out of its cocoon on its own, maintaining the integrity of the silk strands and satisfying the demand for eco-friendly textiles around the world.

This endorsement serves as additional proof of Eri Silk’s legitimacy and regional significance, as it is already a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Assam. Eri Silk is anticipated to gain international recognition and new export prospects as a result of the accreditation, solidifying its position in the sustainable textile sector.

Eri Silk is positioned to play a significant role in the eco-friendly fabric market as the fashion industry continues to move toward more ethical and sustainable alternatives. This achievement demonstrates India’s dedication to sustainable development and underscores its expanding role in the world textile trade.
