In a significant development for the Indian textile industry, the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA), Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA), and the Indian Cotton Federation (ICF) have inked agreements with the Madhya Pradesh government to bolster cotton cultivation and garment manufacturing in the state.
The collaboration aims to tap into Madhya Pradesh’s potential as a leading cotton producer and a thriving garment manufacturing hub. The SIMA and ICF will work closely with the state government to promote the cultivation of extra-long staple (ELS) cotton, a high-quality variety in great demand among Tamil Nadu’s textile mills.
- Thulasidharan, chairman of the ICF, emphasised Madhya Pradesh’s reputation for producing the finest ELS cotton in India. The federation plans to assist the state in expanding cotton acreage and yield while establishing a Cotton Development Board to further support the sector.
SIMA will contribute by setting up demonstration farms for its cotton seeds, with the goal of commercial distribution in the future.
Meanwhile, the TEA will focus on establishing and expanding garment manufacturing units in Madhya Pradesh. The association will also play a crucial role in attracting investments to the state’s garment industry, developing skill sets, and providing consultancy services.
This strategic partnership between industry leaders and the Madhya Pradesh government is expected to create new opportunities for both sectors, generating employment and boosting the economy.
