Padma Shri Dr A. Sakthivel, Chairman of the Apparel Made-ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC), today had the distinct pleasure of meeting with and extending heartfelt congratulations to the Hon’ble Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Jayant Chaudhary. This significant meeting focused on the current landscape and comprehensive gap analysis of the Apparel Made-ups & Home Furnishing sector, marking a pivotal moment in the Council’s ongoing efforts to elevate skill development across India.
During the meeting, Padma Shri Dr A. Sakthivel conveyed his warm congratulations to Hon’ble Minister Shri Jayant Chaudhary on his new role as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. Dr Sakthivel underscored the substantial achievements of the AMHSSC under the Ministry’s visionary guidance, showcasing impressive milestones in training and certification that have set new standards in the industry.
The Council’s achievements are a testament to its dedication and the Ministry’s support, including the certification of 10,347 trainers and 4,681 assessors, the training of 20,13,047 candidates through Short-Term Training (STT), and 3,32,564 candidates through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programs. Remarkably, 93% of the certified candidates are women, highlighting the Council’s commitment to empowering women and fostering inclusive growth within the apparel and fashion sectors.
Furthermore, the AMHSSC has established five state-of-the-art Centres of Excellence located in Noida, Tirupur, Kolkata, Guwahati, and Coimbatore. These centres are pivotal in providing high-quality training and educational opportunities, thereby enhancing the skill sets required in the apparel and fashion industry. Dr Sakthivel articulated a bold vision to establish more such centres across India, ensuring that even the most remote areas benefit from comprehensive skill development initiatives.
