Germ Guardian Filters have become the go-to choice for many homeowners looking to improve their indoor air quality. These filters can capture over 99.97% of dust and allergens. They’ve also been proven effective at cleaning the air of smoke particles as small as 0.1 microns.

Read on as we delve deeper into Germ Guardian Filters.

The post shall highlight a step-by-step guide on optimizing indoor air quality with these filters.

  1. Familiarize Yourself with Germ Guardian’s Efficiency

The first thing to do before adding Germ Guardian Filter to your interior space is to understand what gives it an edge over its competitors.

Germ Guardian Filters draw their efficiency from the equipment utilizing multiple levels of air purification.

Like many high-end air filters, Germ Guardian has a Pre-Filter that traps initial particles. The equipment is also designed with a True HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter that cleans up to 99.97% of irritants from your living space, including dust, pollen, fur, and pet dander. The HEPA filter can also trap smoke particles as tiny as 0.1 microns.

Germ Guardian also comes with a Charcoal Filter that cleans indoor air from odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Finally, an in-built UV-C light technology accelerates bacteria, mold, and virus killing, reducing microbial activity in your house. The UV-C light further activates titanium dioxide to decompose any remaining odor molecules in the air caused by cooking, smoking, and pet activity.

  1. Understand How Germ Guardian Works

Ease of use is among the critical factors when shopping for air filters. It’s also one of the primary drawcards to Germ Guardian.

Germ Guardian Filters come with a control panel consisting of a basic knob. You simply twist the knob clockwise to operate the device and anticlockwise to switch it off.

Germ Guardian’s power knob switches from “Off” to several speed modes (Low, Medium, or High). The air filter also has a button to activate UV-C light sanitation. Simply hit the button to turn the UV-C light on or off.

Note that the UV-C light isn’t so visible in bright conditions. You may need to observe closer to ensure it’s on or off.

  1. Set Germ Guardian in the Right Room

Germ Guardian can circulate air 4.8X per hour in 153 square foot rooms. That makes it ideal for medium-to-large rooms, such as the living room and primary bedroom.

However, to optimize indoor air quality with this air filter, it would be best to set it in a space that registers the most activity. Living rooms and lounges are ideal as nearly every household member goes through them.

You might also consider using Germ Guardian rotationally in the various rooms in your house.

Fortunately, Germ Guardian Air Purifiers are reasonably lightweight, weighing an average of 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) depending on the actual model. The filter is lighter, weighing roughly 13.1 ounces (370 grams).

  1. Let Germ Guardian Blend Into the Background

Still, in the ideal setting, placing your Germ Guardian air filter (and, by extension, air purifier) where it blends seamlessly into the background is prudent.

Germ Guardian Air Purifiers are available in diverse color options, including black, white, gray, and blue. Pick a color that will complement your interior ambiance.

Whichever room you place your Germ Guardian Filter, ensure it’s at least one foot away from the wall, furniture, and other major appliances. This enhances airflow while also making the device reasonably visible.

However, do not sacrifice efficiency for aesthetics. Always observe the unwritten rule of setting an air filter closer to the source of indoor air pollution, even if that location doesn’t exactly complement your interior ambiance.

  1. Use Germ Guardian with Compatible Air Purifiers

Air filters need to be replaced from time to time to improve their efficiency. The thumb rule is to replace Carbon Pre-filters every 3 months, and HEPA filters every 6 – 12 months, depending on the frequency of use.

More importantly, replacement air filters only work when installed in a compatible air purifier.

The good news is that Germ Guardian filters work with nearly all Germ Guardian Air Purifier models, including AC4825E, AC4825W, AC4820, AC4870, AC4300WPT, and AC4300BPTCA. Others are AC4850PT, AC4900CA, CDAP4500BCA, and CDAP4500WCA.

Germ Guardian filters are also compatible with various models of other air purifier brands, such as Black+Decker BXAP150 and PureGuardian Model AP2200CA.

  1. Clean Your Germ Guardian Regularly

Germ Guardian Filters need to be cleaned at least once monthly. You could clean the device more frequently, depending on the environmental conditions it’s exposed to.

Clean your Germ Guardian using the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner. Take the device apart and brush the individual filters separately for better efficiency.

There are several mistakes to avoid when cleaning air filters, which apply to Germ Guardian Filters.

For instance, do not clean your Germ Guardian using alcohol or harsher solvents like thinner and gasoline. Do not stick your finger or any objects inside the filter unit either. Doing so could damage the device while also putting your safety in jeopardy.

If in doubt, clean the device following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Summary

Germ Guardian Filters live up to their reputation. These filters can trap an incredible amount of pollutants from the ambient air. They’re also efficient at eliminating germs and odors.

Hopefully, this article gave you tips on optimizing your Germ Guardian filters.
