March 4, 2024, Mumbai: The Retailers Association of India (RAI) arranged the Retail Leadership Summit 2024 (RLS 2024), which was held at the Hotel Westin Powai Lake in Mumbai on February 28 and 29. The most intelligent people in retail come together for this yearly conference to discuss innovative approaches in the sector.

The Retailers Association of India (RAI) Chief Executive Officer, Kumar Rajagopalan, welcomed the audience to RLS 2024 and stated, “In 2023, the retail industry witnessed a tale of two halves: robust growth initially, followed by a plateau.” This illustrates how important it is to match consumer demands and market developments. Retailers are witnessing a revolutionary change as they integrate digital and physical interactions to create smooth customer journeys. Future success will depend on how well omnichannel initiatives are implemented and how well we comprehend how consumer preferences for trust and convenience are changing. The retail landscape will be significantly shaped going the future by embracing innovation and making quick adjustments in reaction to market changes.

“The retail industry in India is poised for significant growth in the coming year,” said Bijou Kurien, Chairman of the Retailers Association of India (RAI), setting the tone for the summit. Consumption will inevitably rise due to the Q3 FY’24 GDP growth of 8%+ and stable government and private sector investment. The advent of online commerce, in conjunction with the growth of offline retail due to increasingly tech-savvy and aspirational consumers, would signal a major shift in retail structure and channel strategy. Retailers and brands are preparing for rapid expansion, with tier 2 cities being their primary focus for increased market share.

The RAI-Boston Consulting Group report, “Unlocking the $2Tn retail opportunity by 2030: An activist agenda,” the RAI-Deloitte report, “Future of Retail: Profitable Growth through Technology and AI,” the RAI-KPMG report, “Achieving seamless commerce in India,” and the PWC report, “How India shops online: Consumer preferences in the metropolises and tier-1, 2, 3, and 4 cities,” were among the highlights of RLS 2024. In addition, the corresponding teams received congratulations and the RAI – Great Place To Work report on the Best Retail Workplaces 2024 was revealed.

Lalit Agarwal is an advocate for creating strong brand relationships across all interactions, including advertising, and not just in the store. The objective of this strategy is to convert consumers into genuine brand advocates by utilizing word-of-mouth marketing. The secret is consistent storytelling and engagement, which guarantees client loyalty and natural expansion.

Rajesh Jain, MD & CEO, of Sports & Leisure Apparel (Lacoste India), emphasized the approach in the premium fashion segment, noting the significance of strategy differences across retail categories.
