Coimbatore, January 6, 2024 – As part of the highly anticipated Coimbatore Vizha, a textile walkathon named “Texcitement” will occur in the city on January 6. The event will be held on Race Course Road starting at 8:30 a.m. and aims to celebrate Coimbatore’s rich textile heritage.
In a recent press briefing, P. Alli Rani, director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management, announced that around 250 women will participate in this walkathon extravaganza. Adding an artistic touch to the event, mini floats, which will also be related to textiles, will accompany the participants along the course.
Highlighting Coimbatore’s reputation as a textile hub on a national level, Ms Alli Rani elucidated the Institute’s intention to incorporate textiles into the Coimbatore Vizha. After submitting a proposal to the District Collector and the event organisers, the idea garnered unanimous approval.
The walkathon route, spanning two kilometres, will feature several displays of textile products created by the Institute’s students. These exhibits will focus on sustainability, recycling, natural dyes, handlooms, and more. Additionally, even the Bhavani Jamukalam, a traditional carpet, is set to transform the walkathon.
Collaboration is another essential aspect of the event, with approximately 20 fashion design colleges, women’s self-help groups, and various organisations from the city being invited. Ms. Alli Rani invited all women interested in joining the walkathon, regardless of their background, to exhibit new designs, trends, or textile products.
The Texcitement walkathon promises to be an intriguing fusion of fashion, culture, and community involvement, encapsulating the vibrant spirit of Coimbatore Vizha.
