In an effort to boost the presence of India’s premium brand of Kasturi cotton in international markets, Union Textile Minister Piyush Goyal will soon unveil a collection of T-shirts and towels made from this exquisite material. The launch is scheduled to take place on 2 December and aims to showcase the superior quality and craftsmanship of Kasturi cotton.

To support this initiative, the state-run Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has planned to procure over one million bales of Kasturi cotton during the current crop season, which began in October. The total estimated production of cotton for this season is 36 million bales, with each bale weighing around 170 kg. CCI’s Chairman and Managing Director, Lalit Kumar Gupta, explained that the one million bales of Kasturi cotton will be extracted from the total stock through the use of ginning and pressing machines.

Moreover, Gupta revealed that approximately 300 ginning and pressing factories have already been registered with the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council for the processing of this premier cotton. This strategic move highlights the efforts being made to transform conventional cotton seeds into the highly sought-after Kasturi cotton, ensuring its premium status is maintained throughout the supply chain.
